Overview: Other European WB Registries

This page is to be considered a constant work in progress.  Please check back for additional Registry additions and updated information on existing entries.

A word about color:  “Conservative” means only bay, chestnut, brown, and grey exist in the gene pool.  Other colors will be noted individually.  Also keep in mind there is a difference between Registered and Approved.  Non-conservatively colored horses may be registered, but until they go through the approval process they are not to be considered mainstream colors for the registry.  A registry may state they will register all color that meet their requirements, BUT they are considered to be one-offs until they meet approval.  It is for this that one must be skeptical of breed books!

Dutch Warmblood (KWPN)

Brief History & Description: Recent breed
Colors:  Conservative, rare occurances of silver dapple.  One tobiano stallion “Samber” approved but none of his stallion descendants are approved KWPN.  “Fantastic Times” (Goodtimes (KWPN) x Alino Queen (Danish WB) has been recently accepted (not approved!) by the KWPN so cream may also now be in the gene pool.  May warrant further research as cream may have been introduced previously through harness horses.
Naming Convention:  Names have to coincide with the year of birth. In 2008, all names will begin with the letter ‘D’. Names are limited to 20 characters/spaces. See chart on page 16 for a list of letters associated with years.
