How to Register

Breed Eligibility:
Only Mares and Stallions of european warmblood* decent and exceptional Thoroughbreds will be considered for acceptance in the Model Hanoverian Studbook.   There have been exceptionally rare cases of approved Arabians, but for simplicity the MHV will not be accepting purebred or Half Arabians (except for Anglo Arabians bred for sport.)  Also no Stock Horses, Draft horses or Draft Crosses, or horses of unknown ancestry will be accepted.  "Historic" Hanoverians will be processed on an individual basis by the Registrar.

*A european warmblood is a member of one of the following Non-Hanoverian breeds:  Holsteiner, Westphalen, Oldenburg, Swedish Warmblood, Danish Warmblood, Swiss Warmblood, Rhinelander, Zweibrucken, Trakehner, Brandenburg, Tannenburg, Mecklenburg, Baaden Würrtemburg, Belgian Warmblood, Selle Francais, Sachsen-Anhalt, Dutch Warmblood, Zangerscheide, etc., and crosses of the above.

Color:
Colors must be those realistically found in the above mentioned breeds and registries.  "Odd" colors outside of the usual bay, chestnut, black, and grey should come from Hanoverian approved parents as the Hanoverian Registry is still very traditional.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact the Registrar with questions.

Approvals:

Horses of pure Hanoverian ancestry with performance records that are deemed acceptable to the registry will be automatically approved.  Horses of European Warmblood Decent that show acceptable performance records or outstanding offspring are eligible for approval upon submission of a request for approval, as well as pedigree and performance documentation, or offspring performance records in lieu of performance records.

Horses of pure Thoroughbred ancestry (American, British, French, Australian, New Zealand, etc.) shall be considered for approval pending success In Sport.  Success in racing will be considered secondarily to success in one of the sport horse disciplines (ie, dressage, eventing, show jumping, or combined driving).  Any approved Thoroughbred that is accepted into the registry will have the symbol "xx" following its on any and all paperwork associated with the horse and this registry, in order to keep track of the amount of thoroughbred blood in a given pedigree.

Performance Requirements:

Horses requesting approval and admission into the Model Hanoverian Studbook shall meet any of the following performance requirements:
  1. Horses must have a minimum of two (2) NAN Cards (or equivalent, depending on country) in breed or performance if live shown.
  2. Horses must have a minimum of two (2) verifiable first or second place wins in breed or performance if photo shown.
  3. In lieu of performance results, offspring results may be submitted.  In this case, two (2) of the offspring of said horse must each have either two (2) NAN cards (or equivalent) in breed or performance, or two (2) verifiable first or second place wins in breed or performance, depending on type of show.
  4. Special consideration will be given to horses who are Live Show Overall Grand and Reserve Champions as well as horses who are National or Reserve National Champions (either US or other countries) in either breed or performance.
  5.  Horses with six (6) or more NAN Cards or show wins will be eligible for Elite Candidacy

Other Requirements:
Horses requesting approval and admission to the Model Hanoverian Studbook shall meet the following requirements in addition to the above performance requirements.
  1. All horses submitted for approval and registration must be descended from Real Horses within 4 Generations.
  2. Any and all Real Horses in the model pedigrees must either be approved by the governing body of their particular studbook or follow the performance requirements above.
  3. Special consideration will be given to horses with exceptional bloodlines and performance records.
Owners wishing to submit horses for registration and approval with the Model Hanoverian Registry should do the following:

Send an Email with the subject line "Model Hanoverian Society Registration Request" to the Registrar.  Include in the email the horse's name, age (if aging), full performance record, and a 5 generation pedigree (if you have it.  If not, then a 3 generation pedigree is sufficient).  Pictures of the horse (need not be show photos) will be helpful also.

The registrars will respond with an email stating if approval is pending.  If a horse is denied approval for any reason, an email will be sent to explain why the horse was not approved and what the owner can do to resubmit approval.
